The solution is for the world to accept Palestinians as they are, with all their movements, and let Palestinians themselves decide collectively.

Al Araby TV Host: But in the end, Trump’s plan proposes eliminating Hamas’ entire organizational structure in Gaza, politically and militarily. Do you accept or reject that? Senior Hamas Official Osama Hamdan: This has been Israel’s goal for over 20 years, since the arrests of Hamas leaders in 1989. All Israeli efforts to uproot Hamas have failed. They tried the same with Fatah, with the Popular Front, with us for two decades. It never worked—because the Palestinian people’s natural path is resistance. Look at history: the 1930s, the Qassam uprising; the Great Palestinian Revolt; the 1940s, Abdel Qader al-Husseini and the Holy Defense Army; the 1950s, the Arab nationalists; the 1960s, Fatah; the 1980s, Hamas and Islamic Jihad. It is a continuous path. No one can erase it. The solution is for the world to accept Palestinians as they are, with all their movements, and let Palestinians themselves decide collectively. Host: But Israel links any withdrawal from Gaza to Hamas disarming. Would you hand over weapons? Hamdan: Let’s be realistic. In the West Bank, Hamas has no military wing, yet Israel still seizes land every day. Israel even rejected an American-backed Arab proposal to keep Jerusalem’s status and prevent annexation of the West Bank. Their aim is annexation, period. So the claim that Hamas’ weapons are the problem is false. In Gaza, yes, there are military operations that cost Israel dearly. But this is an excuse, not a real argument. We’ve been clear: end the war, enter security arrangements to guarantee stability. We’ve agreed to such arrangements before. The real problem is Israel doesn’t want an agreement. If the U.S. is serious about Trump’s plan, then Hamas’ position can form the basis for a real agreement. Host: Have you asked mediators for U.S. guarantees to bind Israel to the plan? Hamdan: Of course. Without guarantees, the plan has no value. The U.S. must provide them, and this must be conveyed to mediators. It’s essential for Palestinians to have confidence that this can be real.
