Update: I've been made aware of a web-archived message in Arabic attributed to Anas.
1- The English message is entirely fabricated (notice the different avatar)
2- While the Arabic version appears genuine, it's completely inconsistent with Anas' posting history on Oct 7, the immediately preceding day or following that date, where Anas shows a pattern of content limited to factual, journalistic updates.
On Oct 7, Anas posted dozens of messages with a professional reporting style. The language, tone, and sentiment of the disputed post diverge markedly from this pattern.
Many of those updates where copy-pasted from other groups, chat rooms, or news sites. This means it's most likely if (big if) that Arabic message is genuine, it was an accidental post that Anas deleted as soon as he was made aware of it.
Another anomaly is that there is only one archived screenshot from November 2023 of that alleged message & none on comparable services like archive.today. That’s unusual. Normally there would be multiple independent captures. Two additional screenshots appear in April 2025, but that is well after the post was reportedly deleted.
Moreover, the April captures have significantly larger file sizes, which typically indicates they are not true point-in-time captures, but rather reconstructed or partial loads. (H/T the brilliant & extraordinary for this analysis).
Again, even if Anas posted that message, it does NOT render him a legitimate target whatsoever & it does NOT mean he supported the killing of civilians.
Countless Israeli journalists have posted open genocidal incitement & calls to murder, some even served in the IDF in combat roles. If anyone were to say those are legitimate targets, Israelis will immediately scream "terrorism. terrorism!"
