Sergey Lavrov on the world's abandonment of the dollar due to US policy:
"Given that Washington has expressed specific threats to the BRICS, that BRICS must be fought, that BRICS undermines the interests of the United States, I must say in fairness that President Trump previously expressed a somewhat different opinion.
He directly said that the actions of the Biden administration, which uses the dollar as a weapon, have caused irreparable damage to the authority of this world reserve currency. And I am sure that he understands the fairness of this assessment and that in response to the actions of the previous administration, both the BRICS, and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean Countries, and many others are looking for alternative ways of settlement that would not be tied to the dollar.
This is not because we want to escape the dollar. President Putin has emphasized this more than once. They decided to use the dollar to punish those whose behavior seems to the Americans to be contrary to the same notorious rules on which they want to maintain the entire world order."
