Aside from the obvious strangeness of a US citizen going to fight in a foreign army (e.g. IDF or Ukraine), there's also the question of the responsibility of the US Govt if they're captured or killed.
So many of the Oct 7 "American hostages" were actually active-duty IDF soldiers (like "the last American hostage Edan Alexander," captured in IDF uniform). Does it become an American war if a US citizen who decided to fight for a foreign military is captured?
