The debate within Zionism, between 'liberal Zionism' and regular Zionism, has been a similar debate for more than a century.
In the 1910s, Arthur Ruppin represented the liberal Zionists, since he was a "humanist" and a "man of conscience."
He suggested "limited popular transfer." I.e. "limited" ethnic cleansing.
Left or right, the debate within Zionism has never been, is ethnically cleansing Palestinians ok. It has been, how much ethnic cleansing to do. jstor.org/stable/pdf/253
